Located in Lavaca County between the Coastal Bend and the Gulf Coastal Plain, Yoakum lies about 62 miles southeast of San Marcos. The town has a long-standing reputation as a leather-goods center, with tanneries and workshops producing saddles, belts, and other leather products. It grew as a railroad town, and the surrounding land is given over to ranching and farming.
