Sandy Oaks is a young city in southeastern Bexar County, spread across the flat brush country and oak mott terrain south of San Antonio along the Interstate 37 corridor. It lies about 17 miles south of downtown San Antonio, at the metropolitan region's southern edge where suburban development gives way to ranchland. The community incorporated as a city in the 2010s, consolidating a stretch of rural subdivisions and roadside settlement into a single municipality.
