Sabinal, Texas

Sabinal lies in Uvalde County in the southern Texas Hill Country, about 58 miles west of San Antonio, near where the Sabinal River flows down out of the hills toward the plains. The surrounding country is ranch land known for cypress-lined rivers and, historically, for goats, wool, and mohair, and the town has long been regarded as a gateway to the Frio, Nueces, and Sabinal river region. The community began in the 1850s around a stage stop on the road west and moved to its present site when the railroad arrived.
