Set in Motley County on the eastern edge of the Texas High Plains, Roaring Springs lies about 63 miles northeast of Lubbock where the flat Llano Estacado breaks down toward the rougher canyon country to the east. It is a small ranching town named for the springs in the area, surrounded by rangeland and the caprock escarpment. The broader region is defined by cattle ranching and wide, open plains.
