Old River-Winfree is a city in Chambers County, on the coastal prairie east of Houston near the marshes and waterways of the upper Gulf Coast. It lies about 33 miles east of Houston, in low, flat country laced with rivers, bayous, and wetlands. The area combines rural land with the industrial and petrochemical corridor that runs along this stretch of the coast.

Anahuac Was Not Always the County Seat
Chambers County was formed in 1858 with Wallisville as its county seat. By 1908, Anahuac supporters won a lawsuit to move the seat there, and the courthouse has been in Anahuac ever since.
