Moran is a small town in Shackelford County, on the rolling rangeland of West Central Texas roughly 34 miles east of Abilene. The surrounding country is open ranching and farming land on the western edge of the Cross Timbers, an area long associated with cattle and oil. It remains a small rural community set among grassland and mesquite.
