Mingus, Texas

Mingus is a very small city in Palo Pinto County, in the wooded ranch country of West Central Texas about 66 miles southwest of Fort Worth. It sits just across the county line from Thurber, the once-thriving coal-mining company town whose brick smokestack still marks the landscape, and the two communities shared in the coal boom that made this area the leading coal producer in Texas around the turn of the twentieth century before the mines closed.
