Mertzon, Texas

Mertzon is a small city in West Texas, seat of Irion County, lying about 27 miles southwest of San Angelo along Spring Creek in the semi-arid ranchland of the Edwards Plateau's western edge. The surrounding country is open range given over largely to sheep, goat, and cattle ranching, with oil and gas activity across the county. The town developed as a shipping point on the rail line running southwest from San Angelo.
