Mason, Texas

Mason lies in the Hill Country of central Texas, in Mason County about 87 miles southeast of San Angelo and roughly 92 miles west of Georgetown. The surrounding country is rolling granite-and-limestone rangeland drained by the Llano River and its tributaries. The area is known as a source of topaz, the Texas state gem, which can be found on ranchland around the town, and old Fort Mason, a frontier U.S. Army post, once stood on a hill above the settlement.
