The seat of Kaufman County, Kaufman lies in the rolling Blackland Prairie of North Texas about 31 miles southeast of Dallas. It grew as a farming and ranching center along the rail lines and highways southeast of the metroplex, and today sits at the outer edge of the expanding Dallas exurban belt while keeping much of its agricultural surroundings.
