Set on the flat, treeless High Plains of the far northern Texas Panhandle, Gruver is a small city in Hansford County roughly 76 miles northeast of Amarillo. The land here is given over to wheat farming, cattle, and irrigated crops drawn from the Ogallala Aquifer, with grain elevators standing among the surrounding fields. Its position near the Panhandle's northern edge places it in some of the highest and most open country in the state.
