Fruitvale is a small city in Van Zandt County on the western edge of the East Texas Piney Woods, about 38 miles northwest of Tyler. It lies in rolling, wooded countryside dotted with farms and small lakes, in a rural stretch of the region between the Dallas area and Tyler. The setting is one of pine and hardwood timber giving way to open pasture and cropland.
