Channing, Texas

Channing lies on the flat, treeless High Plains of the Texas Panhandle, in Hartley County about 43 miles northwest of Amarillo. The town grew up as a shipping point along the Fort Worth and Denver City rail line, and it served as the headquarters of the vast XIT Ranch, whose restored brick office building still stands in town. The surrounding land remains open ranching and dryland farming country.
