Carrizo Springs is a city in Dimmit County in the brush country of South Texas, about 72 miles northwest of Laredo and roughly 102 miles southwest of San Antonio. It sits in the semiarid ranching region sometimes called the Winter Garden, historically known for winter vegetable farming made possible by irrigation, and the area has more recently seen activity tied to the Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas play. The surrounding land is flat to rolling brushland of mesquite, cactus, and scrub.
