Cotulla, Texas

Cotulla is a town in La Salle County on the brush country of South Texas, roughly 64 miles northeast of Laredo along the Interstate 35 corridor between San Antonio and the border. It is remembered as the place where a young Lyndon B. Johnson taught at the Welhausen School in 1928, an experience he later credited with shaping his views on education. The surrounding country is ranching land that also lies over the oil- and gas-bearing Eagle Ford shale.
