Set on the flat, high grassland of the Texas Panhandle in Randall County, Canyon lies about 17 miles south of Amarillo. The town sits near Palo Duro Canyon, a deep, banded gorge cut into the plains that ranks among the largest canyons in the state and anchors a state park just to the east.
