Canadian, Texas

Canadian is the seat of Hemphill County, set on the south bank of the Canadian River in the northeastern Texas Panhandle, about 98 miles northeast of Amarillo. Unlike the flat plains that surround much of the region, the country here breaks into rolling bluffs, sandy river bottoms, and cottonwood-lined creeks, and cattle ranching has long defined the local economy. The town retains a well-preserved historic downtown and lies near the Black Kettle National Grasslands to the east.
