Byers is a small city in Clay County in North Texas, roughly 86 miles northwest of Denton and close to the Red River, which forms the county's northern boundary. It lies in the rolling ranchland and cropland of the region, an area long shaped by cattle raising, farming, and, historically, oil in the surrounding North Texas fields. The community remains a quiet rural settlement well removed from the larger cities of the metroplex to its southeast.
