Transferring a Used-Car Title in Potter County

When you buy a used vehicle from a private seller, the title transfer runs through the county tax assessor-collector. In Potter County, TxDMV lists that office at 900 S. Polk, Suite 106, in Amarillo.

TxDMV says the buyer has 30 days from the sale date to transfer title. Bring the signed title, Form 130-U, proof of liability insurance, and a lien release if the old title shows a lien.

The cleanest handoff is buyer and seller handling the paperwork together. TxDMV says a tax office representative can spot title problems before the application is filed. TxDMV also lets sellers file a Vehicle Transfer Notification after the sale.
