Some Montgomery County Renewals Work at Neighborhood Locations

Some Montgomery County registration renewals do not require a Tax Office trip. Certain neighborhood businesses, including some grocery-store booths, can handle a routine renewal.

The shortcut works only for clean renewals. You need the current renewal notice, proof of insurance, a current inspection, no new plates, and a Montgomery County address. Title transfers and new-resident registrations still go to county offices.

Before you stop at a booth, check the usual tripwires. Is the sticker too far expired? Does the car need plates? Is the inspection current? Is the address still in county? If not, go straight to the Tax Office.
