Lake Conroe Docks and Bulkheads Need SJRA Permission

On Lake Conroe, owning the shoreline does not mean you control the water or lakebed. The San Jacinto River Authority regulates and licenses work on the reservoir.

That includes home docks, boat slips, bulkheads, business uses, and water drawn for landscape irrigation. SJRA guidance says a private dock, pier, boathouse, or similar structure needs a permit or license before it is built, used, or kept on the reservoir.

If you are buying on Lake Conroe, confirm the SJRA license for any dock or bulkhead before closing. Get SJRA signoff before new waterfront work. A listing, contractor bid, or subdivision approval is not the same permission.
