Poynor is a town in Henderson County, roughly 25 miles southwest of Tyler in the wooded country of East Texas. It lies within the Piney Woods, a region of pine and hardwood forest that shapes the surrounding landscape, in a rural area between the region's larger towns. Poynor remains a small community set among the trees and farmland of East Texas.
