Carthage, Texas

Carthage is a city in Panola County in the deep East Texas Piney Woods, about 34 miles southeast of Longview and near the eastern edge of the state. It sits in heavily forested, gas-rich country and has long been tied to the East Texas oil and natural gas fields as well as timber. The town is known as the home of the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and is associated with several country and gospel performers from the region.
