Carmine is a small city in Fayette County along U.S. Highway 290 in south-central Texas, about 63 miles east of Austin and 39 miles southwest of College Station. It lies in the rolling country between Austin and the Brazos Valley, an area settled heavily by German and Central European immigrants whose influence remains in the region's small towns and churches.
