New to Bell County? You have 30 days to register your vehicle
New Texans have 30 days to register a car after they move here. In Bell County, that job goes through the county tax office. Treat it as a new-resident step, not a yearly renewal.
Bring the old title or registration. Bring proof of current insurance too. Since January 1, 2025, personal vehicles do not need a safety check before registration. In Bell County, a standard passenger car also skips the emissions test.
The county page has office locations, appointment links, and payment details. TxDMV says new residents also pay sales-tax fees at registration.
